Red Bull KTM Ajo has announced the lineup of riders who will compete in the Moto2 and Moto3 classes, MotoGP's support categories, for the 2027 season. Collin Veijer and Jose Antonio Rueda will continue in Moto2, while Brian Uriarte and the new addition Rico Salmela are scheduled to compete in Moto3.
Moto2 Maintains Veijer and Rueda Pair, Salmela Joins Moto3
Red Bull KTM Ajo has announced its participation structure for the Moto2 and Moto3 classes, MotoGP's support categories, for the 2027 season. The team, led by Team Manager Aki Ajo, has already secured Grand Prix trophies in both classes in the 2026 season and has now solidified a significant portion of the KTM GP Academy for 2027. In the Moto2 class, the pair of Collin Veijer and Jose Antonio Rueda are set to compete for the second consecutive year.
Veijer, a 21-year-old Dutch rider, has achieved podium finishes in Red Bull KTM Ajo colors in 2025 and 2026, and 2027 will mark his third season in Moto2 and his fifth season in his Grand Prix career. Meanwhile, Rueda, the 20-year-old 2025 Moto3 World Champion, will conclude his rookie year in Moto2 in 2026, and 2027 will be a season where he seeks further improvement and momentum.
In the Moto3 class, Brian Uriarte and Rico Salmela will compete aboard the KTM RC4. Uriarte, 18, won both the FIM JuniorGP and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup in 2025, and in his 2026 rookie season, he achieved two victories and a total of five podium finishes. Salmela, also 18 and a Finnish rider, will transfer from Red Bull KTM Tech3. He demonstrated speed and potential in his debut season, recording five top-10 finishes, three of which were in the top 5.
KTM's success has been evident in various categories. In September 2026, it was also reported that KTM's Pedro Acosta won the Austrian Grand Prix.
Team Manager and Each Rider Express Enthusiasm for 2027
Veijer, who will continue in the Moto2 class, commented, "I am very grateful to remain with the team and that KTM and Red Bull continue to believe in me next year. I will always push to my limits to get closer to my goal of one day becoming a MotoGP rider." Rueda also expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "I am very happy to stay with the dream team that has watched my growth over the past four seasons. After a rookie year where I had to adapt to new ways of working in every aspect, I am confident that 2027 will bring even more success."
Uriarte, from the Moto3 class, stated his determination, "Next year I will be one of the contenders fighting at the front, so I need to prepare thoroughly to achieve the goals I have set. It will be important to put into practice everything I have learned in my rookie year." Salmela, the new addition, expressed his joy, "It is truly wonderful to join a Finnish team at the top level of this sport, which has been a childhood dream. I want to prepare in the best possible way for next year."
Team Manager Aki Ajo evaluated, "Moto2 is one of the most competitive categories in the world, and being able to compete with the same riders and gain experience will give us the chance to fight for victories and podiums every weekend. Veijer has shown he has what it takes to be at the top of the class, and Rueda shows signs of becoming a top Moto2 contender in the near future."
Ajo further commented on the Moto3 lineup, "Uriarte's evolution in his rookie year has been remarkable, and we can expect a lot from him in the coming years. I have known Salmela since he was a child, and his dedication at that time was something rarely seen. I am confident that we have the strongest pair, and the fact that they have been developed through the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup program means a lot to the entire project." Each rider is scheduled to proceed with preparations for the start of the 2027 season.
