Intercom Basics: The Difference Between Bluetooth and Mesh (Mesh)
A scene from the new product launch event held before its release on June 15th. The Reso Pilot series consists of three models: "LITE," "NEO," and "PRO," from right to left. "NEO" and "PRO" adopt Mesh communication.
Intercoms are indispensable items that become invaluable for tandem rides, group touring, and even solo rides. You can communicate with your riding buddies or listen to music and navigation audio from your smartphone using your intercom attached to your helmet. There are two main connection methods: the traditional Bluetooth connection and the recently popularized Mesh communication. You might be aware of these already.
Some might say they don't care about the "mechanism" as long as they can communicate during a tour. However, the stability and quality of communication can actually be affected by these underlying technologies.
To understand why, it's important to grasp how Bluetooth and Mesh facilitate conversations and calls.
Bluetooth, a popular connection method for conventional intercoms, is a communication standard that wirelessly connects digital devices over short distances, typically tens of meters. It operates on the principle of one-to-one relay between devices.
For example, if four intercoms (A, B, C, and D) are communicating, A's audio is relayed through B and C to reach D. This allows for communication between A and D, even if they are several kilometers apart, as long as the connection distance between adjacent devices is within tens to hundreds of meters. However, if B or C stops at a convenience store or gas station, breaking the chain, the conversation between A and D will be interrupted.
On the other hand, Mesh communication offers a longer communication range than Bluetooth and can relay signals through multiple devices. This means A can communicate directly not only with B but also with C and D. Therefore, even if B drops out, the conversation with C and D will not be interrupted. Another advantage of Mesh is its ability to support simultaneous communication among a larger number of users compared to Bluetooth.
Reso Pilot NEO Features Reso's Unique Hardware Mesh Technology, UniSync™
"Reso Pilot NEO," launched by Daytona on June 15th, incorporates "UniSync™," Reso's proprietary hardware Mesh technology. Reso is a venture company from China founded by engineers from a world-leading drone manufacturer. Although established in 2024, its top model, Reso Pilot PRO, has held the number one sales position for 17 consecutive months, making it an emerging brand rapidly catching up to established manufacturers.
Among the three models in the Reso Pilot series – "PRO," "NEO," and "LITE" – the "NEO" model, featured here, appeals to both intercom beginners and heavy users with its balanced performance and price.
