At the 2026 Motocross World Championship (MXGP) Czech Grand Prix, Jeffrey Herlings of Honda Racing Petronas delivered an overwhelming performance. After winning the qualifying race the previous day, Herlings maintained his momentum in the main races. With excellent starts in both races, he surged to the front and controlled the races to the finish, securing a perfect 60 points with a 1-1-1 scorecard.
This flawless victory places Herlings at the top of the championship standings with a 49-point lead over second place, with six rounds remaining. This marks his second consecutive overall victory in a Grand Prix, giving him a solid grip on the title race.
Standing beside Herlings on the podium was his teammate, Tom Vialle, also from Honda Racing Petronas. Vialle showed strong riding in both races, finishing 3-2 to take second overall. This podium finish at the hard-pack Loket circuit is a first for Vialle, marking a significant achievement in his comeback season after injury.
Furthermore, teammate Ruben Fernandez also put in a commendable performance. After finishing fifth in Race 1, Fernandez delivered a strong ride in Race 2 to finish fourth. He secured fourth overall and climbed to fifth in the championship standings. At one point, three Honda riders occupied podium positions, highlighting the team's dominance throughout the weekend.
Meanwhile, Valerio Lata finished seventh in Race 1 but faced a challenging situation on the first lap of Race 2, forcing him to fight back from the rear of the pack. However, he impressively overtook 18 riders to finish twelfth. He vows to bounce back at the next round in Lommel, Belgium.
"I Won't Stop Working Until I Get the Gold Plate," Say the Riders
Jeffrey Herlings, who achieved the perfect victory, stated, "The 1-1-1 result was exactly what I needed. The Honda machine is excellent on hard-pack surfaces, providing great traction. I know I have the red plate, but I need to continue performing like this for the remaining six rounds. I won't stop working until I get the gold plate."
Second overall, Tom Vialle, expressed his joy: "It's fantastic to be back on the podium after a tough series of races, including missing a few rounds due to injury. This is my comeback season and my first season racing the 450cc, so I've been working incredibly hard. It's paying off. I know I can achieve even better results in the remaining six rounds."
Ruben Fernandez, who finished fourth overall, commented, "I think I rode to the best of my ability today. I got a good start in Race 2 and was able to position myself within sight of the leaders. Of course, I want to be on the podium, but there are still six rounds left. I am determined to stand on the podium before the season ends."
Team Manager Marcus Pereira de Freitas added, "Jeffrey showed incredible strength in all three races, demonstrating speed and skillful race control on this challenging track. I'm also very happy to see Tom back on the podium. Ruben's fourth overall means we were just one step away from a team podium sweep. The entire team is full of confidence right now."
The next round will be held in Lommel, Belgium, known for its extremely deep sand track. The Honda team aims to maintain their momentum and tackle this demanding race with the goal of further victories.
