Front Fork Torii Gate Praying for Riders' Safety

In July 2026, a front fork-style torii gate was installed at the "No. 29 Sakura Motorcycle Shrine," located at the roadside station "Wakasa Sakuranbo" in Wakasa Town, Tottori Prefecture.
This torii gate is designed with the front fork, which supports the motorcycle's front wheel and absorbs impact from the road, as its motif. According to the shrine, the role of the front fork in supporting the rider's direction of travel was superimposed with the shrine's wish to "support riders' journeys and guide them to a safe path."
The construction was funded by donations received from visitors in the Reiwa 7 fiscal year and funds raised through the sale of goshuin (temple/shrine seals).
Spreading on Social Media, Gaining International Attention
When the shrine introduced this torii gate on Instagram, the video recorded approximately 240,000 views and 150,000 viewers. 98.4% of viewers were not followers, indicating that the information reached a new audience who were previously unaware of the shrine. Furthermore, there were many views from overseas, including Taiwan and Indonesia, attracting interest across national borders.
The shrine is located along National Route 29, and aims to make this route a desirable road for riders. They hope that people will visit Wakasa Town not just as a transit point, but as a touring destination, taking commemorative photos in front of the torii gate with their beloved motorcycles.
The representative of the Motorcycle Shrine explained that the front fork is similar to the shrine's role in praying for riders' safety and watching over their journeys. Triggered by the reaction on social media, they hope that visitors will come to Wakasa Town, enjoy its charms, ride safely to their destinations, and return home safely.
