Comprehensive Evolution Driven by "Rider First" Philosophy
First introduced in 2018 and fully redesigned in 2022, the 790 DUKE is characterized by its nimble handling, powered by a parallel-twin engine, making it a distinctive model within the larger displacement DUKE series. This latest update represents a further evolution, with styling inspired by KTM's flagship models and enhancements to its performance. However, the core principle of "Rider First" remains unchanged. In addition to pursuing agility, ergonomics have been refined for significantly improved operability. The result is a machine that offers a more integrated and confidence-inspiring riding experience.
The powertrain remains the same parallel-twin engine with a 75-degree crankshaft pin offset. It delivers a robust 105 PS and 87 Nm of torque at 8,000 rpm. Combined with a slimmer frame, this configuration enables quick steering response and deep lean angles, while the longer wheelbase ensures both straight-line stability and cornering stability.
While the exterior may appear similar to the previous model apart from the redesigned front mask, numerous subtle improvements have been made. Notably, the redesigned fuel tank shape, optimized for more effective knee grip, creates a more natural contact between the rider's knees and the tank surface, enhancing stability during riding. These bodywork revisions also contribute to a 2kg weight reduction.
Newly Designed Suspension, Braking System, and Electronics
The 2027 model is equipped with the latest "WP BRAKING SYSTEM," developed in-house based on extensive racing experience. The front features two 300mm floating discs with radial-mount four-piston calipers, while the rear has a 240mm disc with a single-piston caliper. To improve operability for novice riders, the rear brake pedal position has also been adjusted. This system prioritizes rider feel, delivering smooth and linear braking response.
The front suspension utilizes WP APEX 43mm open cartridge upside-down forks with 150mm of travel and split function technology. Damping is independently controlled for compression and rebound in five stages on each side. The rear shock is a gas-assisted WP APEX monotube rear shock absorber, offering five-stage rebound damping adjustment and manual preload adjustment. Increased suspension stroke at the shock absorber and wheel enhances road tracking and ride comfort.
The main frame uses chrome-molybdenum steel tubing, maintaining the structure that utilizes the engine as a stressed member. The subframe is a new cast aluminum design, integrating the airbox and side air intakes, contributing to weight reduction and improved rigidity and durability. The electronic control system is consolidated on a 5-inch TFT display, allowing for settings adjustments for riding modes, cornering ABS, and cornering traction control. Anti-wheelie control and launch control are also available as options.
The manufacturer's suggested retail price is 1,198,000 yen, with a scheduled release in June 2026. It will be available in two colors: Orange and Black.
