Unlocking Potential for Long-lasting Enjoyment: KAWASAKI ZZR1400 (ZX-14) Custom

K-2 Project's ZZR1400 (ZX-14)

In 2006, Kawasaki introduced the ZX-14 as their new flagship model, replacing the ZX-12R. It featured a monocoque chassis and a unique six-headlight design. Here, we introduce a custom based on the ZX-14. The owner had previously ridden the ZZR1100 and 1200 before switching to this motorcycle, and he has been enjoying it ever since. Despite being from a distant location, he actively visits this custom shop for maintenance, customization, and simply to have fun. Three shops are involved in customizing this bike: a local shop, Auto R-ism.com, and K2-Project. K-2 Project specializes in handling mega sports/flagship models like the ZZR1100, 1200, and ZX-14/R, making it a natural choice for mega sports enthusiasts to frequent.

Upon inspecting the bike, it is evident that the engine has been replaced with a second ZX-14 engine due to increased mileage. The exhaust system, which combines various parts with a Nojima exhaust pipe, is sourced from Auto R-ism.com. K-2 Project specializes in handling brakes and suspension components. The construction of this bike takes into consideration the riding environment and the expertise of each shop, showcasing excellent collaboration between the owner and the shops involved. Moreover, after the interview, there were further suggestions from K-2, including upgrading the front brake caliper to the Brembo Monoblock CNC Racing model, changing the brake hose to Allegri, and aligning the rear brake disc with the front brand. These proposals contribute to a sense of uniformity and enhance the functionality of the ZX-14. Additionally, in order to improve engine responsiveness, a Sub ECU is being added, and A/F adjustments will be recalibrated at K2-Project. Once these modifications are completed, the owner will be able to enjoy the effectiveness while riding back home, just as he has been doing until now.

Handle

The handlebar is the ZX-14 stock, and the left and right master cylinders have been replaced with Brembo ones. The stem remains stock, and an Ohlins Steering Damper is mounted on the top bridge.

Bodyworks

The exterior features ZX-14 panels with added Flare Decal patterns on the sides and Edge Decal patterns around the front headlight area. The windshield is Zero Gravity Smoke type, and the mirrors are TANAX Napoleon Optics, indicating attention to even the short parts that reflect the bike's usage.

The seat is swapped out depending on the rider's mood and purpose at the time, especially during long-distance rides. As seen in the photo, it is replaced with the successor model's seat for the ZX-14R.

The rear has been fender eliminated. The question mark-shaped part visible at the end of the seat is the Auto R-ism.com luggage hook.

Engine

The engine is the stock ZX-14, but due to extended mileage, it has been replaced with another ZX-14 engine. It's a good option if you like the bike specifications. The exhaust features the Nojima Spiral Collector in titanium + the Auto R-ism.com silencer.

Chassis

The clutch release has been replaced with a Wheelie aluminum billet. The rearsets kit is AGRAS' machined version, which enhances the foot grip. The side stand is from Auto R-ism.com.

The front fork had been changed to Ohlins inverted forks during the early stages of customization. At the time of the interview, the front brake setup consisted of Brembo CNC 4-piston calipers paired with Sunstar Works Expand brake discs.

The rear brake setup features Brembo CNC 2-piston calipers paired with Sunstar Premium Racing brake discs. Both the front and rear axles are custom-made with βtitanium, specifically ordered as Ti-6AL-4V with a nitride processing.

The rear shock is also from Ohlins. The swingarm is a Wheelie 7N01 model, and the wheels are equipped with JB-POWER MAGTAN JB3 in sizes 3.50-17 for the front and 6.00-17 for the rear.
