V-MAX 1200 (1200cc) Owner: TK-max

Background of the Model

The YAMAHA V-MAX, since its debut in 1985, has been a historic model that has captivated riders worldwide with its innovative style and overwhelming performance. Equipped with a water-cooled 4-stroke V4 engine, the "V-Boost" system, particularly in higher-end models, was a unique Yamaha system that expanded the intake port diameter at high RPMs, delivering explosive power. The V-MAX can be said to have established a new genre of "muscle bikes," pursuing not just transportation but also the joy of ownership and the thrill of riding. Even today, years after its release, its distinctive design and performance remain timeless, with a passionate fan community. As it is now discontinued, vehicles in good condition or those that retain their originality are highly rare.

Owner Introduction

TK-max purchased this V-MAX five years ago, opting for the pre-emission control 145PS model because they weren't drawn to the compactness of the latest models. They are pursuing their ideal customization while collecting discontinued and obsolete parts. While satisfied with the V4 engine's pulse and sound, and the overwhelming power of the V-Boost, they also find peace of mind in the availability of replacement parts. This is truly a motorcycle filled with the owner's dedication and affection.

■ Reason for Purchase, Usage, and Comparison Models

I considered the latest models (like the Z900RS), but upon seeing them in person, their compactness deterred me from purchasing. About five years ago, I found a custom vehicle with the pre-emission control 2LT 145PS model on an auction site and bought it immediately. I'm continuing the customization by relentlessly collecting discontinued and obsolete parts.

■ Strengths

The V4 pulse and sound are satisfying enough even when just cruising. The V-Boost is magnificent.
Replacement parts are relatively easy to obtain, which provides peace of mind.

■ Weaknesses

The fuel tank capacity is small at 15 liters, so I'm always mindful of the fuel level on touring trips.
Although I'm customizing it to my liking, if I change parts too easily, the balance is immediately disrupted, and I find myself wanting to change parts frequently, ending up with many unused parts.

■ Advice for Potential Buyers

There aren't many vehicles in good condition. Look for a vehicle that has been meticulously maintained, even if it has high mileage. If possible, a Yamaha officially imported vehicle with a meter displaying kilometers would be a safer bet.

■ Future Customization Plans

・Gel cushion processing for the seat
・Installation processing for assist grips for vehicle inspection
・Intake system
・Suspension, etc.
