KTM has announced the 2027 model of the new "KTM SX-E 2.12" electric motocrosser for kids overseas. The front wheel has been increased to 12 inches from the previous model, and the seat height has been raised.
Larger vehicle size with 12-inch front wheel and extended suspension
The 2027 "KTM SX-E 2.12" announced by KTM is an electric motocrosser for kids positioned between the existing "KTM SX-E 2" and "KTM SX-E 3". As part of its commitment to the next generation of champions, the company states that it provides young riders with the same high-quality materials and high-end components as the SX series. This model was developed as an optimal platform for taller beginners.
The chassis is designed based on an extended version of the center-tube extruded aluminum frame. The front wheel has been increased from the 10-inch size of the KTM SX-E 2 to 12 inches, and the suspension components have been extended to ensure a higher stance.
The front is equipped with a 90mm travel WP hydraulic fork, and the rear features a 34mm hydraulic monoshock with 70mm travel and adjustable preload. The rear shock is mounted directly to the swingarm, and the damping characteristics have been optimized to balance with the front fork. As a result, the seat height is 66mm higher than the maximum 500mm of the KTM SX-E 2. Ground clearance and wheelbase have also been improved, while the vehicle weight remains at 29kg.
Maintenance-free hub motor adopted with safety in mind
The powertrain uses a lightweight, maintenance-free hub motor that delivers a maximum output of 1.8kW and a maximum torque of 50Nm. The hub motor structure, which eliminates additional parts such as chains and sprockets, keeps the weight low and increases safety in the event of a fall. Because it is quiet, easy to operate, and lightweight, it is also suitable for riding in backyards or park areas with strict noise regulations.
The power source is a 9.4Ah power-tool-type lithium-ion battery with IP65 waterproof performance. Charging is performed using an external charger that supplies up to 500W, allowing for a 100% charge in approximately 60 minutes when connected to a 110V or 230V socket. The handlebar features an illuminated multi-function display that allows the rider to easily check the selected ride mode by color.
As a safety feature, it is equipped with a rollover sensor that cuts off the power in the event of a fall. It also includes a wrist strap key that connects the rider directly to the kill switch, stopping the motor in situations where control is lost. While sales have already begun overseas, pricing should be inquired about at authorized KTM dealers. Availability in Japan has not been announced.
