[Superbike World Championship] From 1000cc to 1200cc! Manufacturers react to new regulations starting in 2030

The Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) has announced new regulations to be introduced from 2027 to 2030. Engine displacement is scheduled to increase to 1200cc in 2030, and representatives from each manufacturer shared their views on this change during free practice at the Magny-Cours round.

The Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) Superbike Commission has confirmed the roadmap for regulation changes from 2027 to 2030. The main change is that the engine displacement limit is scheduled to be raised to 1200cc in 2030. Additionally, changes to procedures regarding rev limits are planned for 2027, and changes to manufacturer concessions are planned for 2028.

Marco Zambenedetti, Technical Coordinator at Ducati Corse, commented, "The impact will be quite significant. Performance will certainly decrease, but I trust that our engineers will do a good job." He noted that he is watching to see if the gap with other manufacturers will narrow.

Guim Roda, Manager of the Bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team, suggested feedback to production vehicles, stating, "We need to make adjustments not only based on race speed but also on how Bimota can respond with production cars. We will strive to provide bikes optimized for the new rules to the general public."

Niccolo Canepa, Road Racing Sporting Manager at Yamaha Motor Europe, welcomed the change, saying, "Bulega was overwhelming this year, but the new rules are a positive direction for both privateer and factory teams."

Sven Blusch, Head of BMW Motorrad Motorsport, said, "The conditions are the same for all manufacturers, and we will build the best package over the next three years." Manuel Puccetti, team principal of Kawasaki, expressed hope for the possibility of new manufacturers entering due to the increase in displacement. The development competition among manufacturers in the future will be one to watch.
