The Naked Version of the F 450 Series. Starting from 6,490 Euros in Germany
The F 450 R was developed as a distinct naked model within the F 450 series. According to BMW, the development focused on "BMW's characteristic riding enjoyment," achieved through a dedicated chassis and geometry, thorough weight reduction, and a powerful parallel-twin engine. The design follows the current design language of the premium naked "S 1000 R."
While the price is not listed in BMW's press release, according to German specialist magazines "Motorrad" and SPEEDWEEK, the price in Germany starts from 6,490 Euros (Austria 6,690 Euros, Switzerland 6,750 Swiss Francs). BMW has not disclosed the market launch timing, but it is expected to be introduced in time for the start of the 2027 season.
The base model, F 450 GS, began accepting orders in Japan in May 2026 from 961,000 yen. Compared to the F 450 GS's curb weight of 178kg, the F 450 R is 3kg lighter at 175kg. In July, a BMW Motorrad executive stated that they would "release derivative models of the F 450 GS one after another."
135-degree Crank 420cc Parallel-Twin. Generates 80% of Max Torque at 3,000rpm
The engine is a newly developed water-cooled 4-stroke parallel-twin DOHC 4-valve, first adopted in the F 450 GS. With a bore and stroke of 72x51.6mm and a compression ratio of 13:1, the F 450 R features tuning modifications for road use and a distinctive sound. A balancer shaft and a 135-degree crankpin offset achieve a balance of smoothness and character.
Maximum output is 35kW (48hp) at 8,750rpm, and maximum torque is 43N・m at 6,750rpm. It generates 80% of its maximum torque at 3,000rpm. Compliant with Euro 5+, fuel consumption is 3.8L/100km (WMTC, approximately 26.3km/L). Combined with the 14L fuel tank, the cruising range is over 350km. BMW's official figures state a 0-100km/h acceleration of 5.7 seconds and a top speed of 169km/h. The service interval is 10,000km.
The exhaust system uses a stainless steel underfloor muffler with two catalytic converters. The transmission is a 6-speed, with a left-side drive via an X-ring chain for secondary reduction. Three grades other than the base model come standard with the "Shift Assistant Pro," which allows for upshifts and downshifts without clutch operation (can be retrofitted to the base model).
Steel Tube Space Frame with KYB Suspension, Brembo 4-Piston Front Brakes
The chassis is based on the concept of the F 450 GS, with settings modified for road use. The frame is a steel tube space frame welded from steel tubes and forged parts, utilizing the engine as a structural member. With a wheelbase of 1,405mm, a caster angle of 23.4 degrees, and a trail of 110mm, it features a short wheelbase design aimed at agile handling characteristic of a naked bike.
The front suspension is a KYB φ43mm inverted fork, with the "Sport Suspension" specification allowing for adjustable rebound and compression damping. The rear features a hollow-cast aluminum closed dual-sided swingarm combined with a directly mounted KYB center spring strut, allowing for adjustable preload and rebound damping. Suspension travel is 140mm at both front and rear.
The wheels are lightweight cast aluminum, with tire sizes of 110/70-17 for the front and 150/60-17 for the rear, both tubeless. The brakes consist of Brembo 4-piston monobloc calipers with φ310mm floating discs at the front, and a ByBre single-piston caliper with a φ240mm disc at the rear.
Electronic controls include "ABS Pro" compatible with cornering ABS, Dynamic Brake Control (DBC), Dynamic Traction Control (DTC), and Engine Drag Torque Control (MSR) as standard on all models. There are three riding modes: "Rain," "Road," and "Dynamic," and it is equipped with a dynamic brake light that alerts following vehicles of sudden deceleration.
6.5-inch TFT and Heated Grips as Standard. Four Variations Available
Equipment includes a 6.5-inch TFT display with smartphone connectivity for calls, music, and navigation, a USB-C port, LED headlights, and heated grips as standard. The riding position is determined by the high, rider-close tapered aluminum handlebar, and the fuel tank and bodywork are shaped for easy knee grip.
The shift lever, foot brake lever, and side stand are made of forged aluminum. The passenger footpeg bracket is bolt-on to the rear frame, a specification that BMW notes as unusual for this class. For track use, the shift pattern can be changed to a reverse shift. The seat height is 790mm as standard. Optional low (775mm) and high (810mm) seats are also available.
The "Easy Ride Clutch (ERC)," which allows starting, stopping, and shifting without clutch operation, can be factory-fitted as part of the M Sport Innovation Package or retrofitted as an official accessory for other grades. The lineup consists of the following four grades:
Cosmic Black (F 450 R Base / F 450 R Exclusive)
This color is available for the "F 450 R Base" and the "F 450 R Exclusive," which adds Shift Assistant Pro and Sport Suspension.
Snaefell White / M Motorsport (F 450 R M Sport / F 450 R M Sport with Innovation Package)
This color is available for the higher-spec "F 450 R M Sport" and the "F 450 R M Sport with Innovation Package," which includes ERC. It features a white frame and M Motorsport colored rim stickers. The M Sport is equipped with "Riding Modes Pro," which adds the individually configurable "Dynamic Pro" riding mode, Shift Assistant Pro, and Sport Suspension. The TFT display also adds a sports screen showing DTC operation status, braking force, and lean angle, along with a lap timer.
